KARUNA has been actively involved in teaching, studying and practicing holistic health modalities since 1983. In 1987 she moved to Albuquerque, NM to study Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counseling with the renowned, Ayurvedic Physician, Vasant Lad. Through Dr. Lad's teachings she deepened her knowledge on living a balanced lifestyle. At this time Karuna also deepened her commitment to her own spiritual practice, which grounds her intention to benefit others with her healing skills.
Her work as a Clinical Herbalist and studies in Tibetan Medicine deeply impressed upon her the importance of working with the mind. In this ancient system of healing addressing the mind and spirit are of utmost importance. So naturally, the next step was to receive a Master's in Counseling, (1996). Simultaneously, Karuna knew the importance of hands on healing and was certified as a Registered Polarity Practitioner through APTA, an international organization that upholds the standards in "Energy Medicine".
Most recently, Karuna achieved the status of Certified Hakomi Therapist -- see The Hakomi Institute for more information. She integrates Hakomi into her practice of psychotherapy and color therapy healing sessions. In her spare time, she does Ikebana, a meditative art form of arranging flowers from Japan. Karuna has been a student of Sheng Zhen - Qigong of Unconditional Love since 2003 and has been actively involved in preserving Tibetan Buddhist meditation and spiritual retreat through Vairotsana Foundation of New Mexico.
